Ready to dive into the dramatic, hands-on magic of raku? The Olympic 18 Raku kiln is designed specifically for this firing method—letting you work fast, reduce freely, and handle hot ware with ease. A hand-winch raises the insulated chamber, trapping heat inside while keeping it away from the potter. That means easier access to your work and better retention of temperature while you transfer pieces to post-reduction cans.
This 3.29 cubic foot kiln (17½" x 22½") is great for firing a mix of raku bowls, sculptural forms, or short runs of mugs, spoon rests, and lidded jars.
You can also use it for oxidation and reduction firing up to Cone 10, giving you flexibility beyond just raku. With two venturi burners putting out 120,000 BTU/hr, heat builds fast and holds steady.
The ignition system lights both burners from one point and will re-ignite them if needed. A thermocouple shut-off stops gas flow entirely if the flame goes out—so you can focus on timing and color, not equipment.
The 18 Raku uses around 5 gallons of propane per Cone 10 firing, but for safety and performance, Olympic recommends using a propane tank larger than 5 gallons to maintain proper pressure and prevent freeze-up.
