Designed specifically for the bold, fast-paced process of raku firing, the Olympic 23 Raku makes it easy to work with fire, flame, and post-reduction effects without sacrificing safety or control.
The lift-away chamber, raised by a hand-winch, traps heat in the kiln and away from the potter—giving you direct access to glowing ware while protecting your body from radiant heat.
With a 7 cubic foot interior (23⅜" x 27"), this kiln gives you space to fire larger sculptural work, full series of raku vases or bowls, and wide serving pieces without crowding.
It also fires easily to Cone 10, supporting both oxidation and reduction cycles for functional stoneware or glaze development. Three venturi burners provide 240,000 BTUs/hour of heat, evenly distributed across the firing chamber.
The built-in ignition system lights all burners from a single point and re-ignites any that go out. If the flame is lost entirely, a thermocouple shut-off stops the gas flow automatically.
The 23 Raku kiln uses about 7 gallons of propane per Cone 10 firing—but Olympic recommends using a tank larger than 7 gallons to avoid pressure drop or freeze-up during longer, hotter firings.
